The Opposition National Democratic Congress say their planned demostration to draw government’s attention to what the party calls the negative effects of it’s its policies will go ahead even after the date set for it passed without any action.
The NDC had planned to stage the “March For Survival” protest latest by April 4 but the date passed by without the slightest hint of interest in it by the party.
That has led political observers to conclude that the party has lost interest in the demonstration especially after the leaders of two other opposition parties, the Concention People’s Party and the Ghana Consolidated Popular Party said they won’t take part.
But before supporters and sympathizers of the ruling party draw any conclusions, a member of the NDC’s campaign team says the demonstration would take place.
Rojo Mettle- Nunoo told JoyNEWS that some other pressing issues have necessitated the postponement of the scheduled date. According to him, the March intended to bring to the fore the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian would take place with or without the support of other political parties.
Mr. Mettle- Nunoo says civil society groups and individuals facing economic hardships are expected to join the March for Survival. Opposition to the demonstration has come from government officials, NPP sympathizers and pro- government newspapers that have questioned the need to go on a demonstration.
