NCCE to dismiss staffs that indulges in partisan politics

Konongo (Ash), Sept 15, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) says it will dismiss any staff of the Commission who will campaign for a political party. It said even though every staff of the Commission had a constitutional right to belong to a party of his choice and attend its rallies, it would be unacceptable for any staff to put on party colours and mount political platform to campaign.

Mr Kusi Aborah, Ashanti Regional Director of the NCCE, said this in response to a question at a forum on political tolerance at Konongo in the Asante-Akim North District on Tuesday. It was organised by the district directorate of the NCCE for political party leaders, youth groups, church leaders, assembly members and some traditional rulers in the district. Mr Aborah said during the 2000 electioneering campaign, the Commission dismissed three members of staff for campaigning for their parties. The dismissed staffs were from the NPP, NDC and the CPP.

Mr Aborah said it was imperative for political party members to play the game according to the rules and regulations of the electoral system and tolerate the views of their opponents to ensure peaceful co-existence and unity of the country. Mr George Frimpong, The District Chief Executive for Asante-Akim North, urged the NCCE to step up its education campaign to enable Ghanaians understand the functions of the various organs of the state to enable them address their concerns appropriately. He called for peaceful co-existence among all political parties to ensure peace and unity in the country.

Mr Theodore Gawe, Konongo Divisional Police Commander, urged members of political parties to adhere to the laws covering the electoral system in order not to breach the peace and security of the state. He advised party supporters not to take the law into their hands but report electoral malpractices and offences to the police for action to be taken.
