Takoradi Nov. 11 GNA – Mr Kwaku Baa Owusu, Western Regional Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), observed on Thursday that peace and unity were fundamental and decisive in all matters that underpinned the success of the country’s fledgling democracy.
Speaking at a public forum on Election 2004, organised by the NCCE in Takoradi, he said: “In unity we can tackle the myriad of development problems of our nation and communities”.
Mr King Addai Darkwah, Deputy Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, appealed to politicians to stick to issues and stop attacking personalities during their electioneering campaigns. He tasked the media to protect national security and integration by not publishing sensational stories or falsehood.
Mr George Asimah, the Regional Police Commander, who spoke on the Public Order Act, advised the political parties to inform the Police in writing of any public function, at least five days before the event. This he said was the yardstick for the Police to determine whether the event could breach public peace or not.
The Most Reverend John Martin Darko, the Catholic Bishop of the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese, said peace and unity was necessary to ensure the success of the December 7 polls.
