NCCE official commends students

Sunyani (B/A) March 17, GNA – Mrs Tina Akosua Akumanyi, Deputy Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has commended students of Jema Secondary School in Brong-Ahafo for exhibiting youthful enthusiasm on national issues.

Mrs Akumanyi was leading a four-member NCCE delegation to the region as part of an outreach programme of the Commission to help ensure that eligible persons participated in the on-going registration exercise.

She noted that the refreshing attitude of the students towards national issues indicated that Ghana’s democracy was growing with time. The other members of the delegation are Mr Opoku Afriyie, Member of the Commission, Mr Richard Zakari, Deputy Director in-charge of Public Education and Mr P. Nketiah, Director of Public Affairs.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani on their interaction with the students in the school, Mrs Akumanyi said she explained that the registration exercise was not for voting alone, “but also to show one’s identity as a Ghanaian”.

She, therefore, urged all eligible persons to participate and advised the students to study hard, aim high and study the Constitution since they were the future leaders of the country.

Mr Zakari explained that the Commission had embarked on an exercise to educate unit committees to liaise with the Commission in eliminating the names of dead persons from the register.

He said the photograph-taking exercise for registered persons in the Region would take place from April 14 to April 19 adding that the registration exercise was free.

Mr Richard Gyamfi, Headmaster of the School, advised the students to spread the message to their parents, relatives and friends who were not very keen to register to do so.
