Techiman (B/A) March 19, GNA – The National Commission for Civil Education (NCCE) has intensified its public education on the voters’ registration exercise in the Techiman municipality.
Officials of the Commission have visited welders, carpenters, cobblers, hairdressers, dressmakers and tailors at their workplaces to educate them on the need to register as voters.
Mr Pierre Kwabena Ankomah, Municipal Director of the NCCE, called on the tradesmen and women to allow eligible apprentices to register to enable them to vote in the forthcoming polls.
He said the exercise would enable the Electoral Commission (EC) to remove the names of dead persons and multiple names from the bloated old register.
Mr Peter Kwabena Gyasi, Civic Education Officer in-charge of programmes, told the GNA that officials of NCCE would educate other workers on the need for them to register as voters.
He reminded the public that double registration, unlawful possession of registration materials, lying about one’s nationality and age and forging or wilfully destroying registration documents were offences punishable by law .
The Commission appealed to the Techiman Municipal Assembly to provide it with a means of transport and other logistics to enable the officials extend the education to the remote areas.
A tour by GNA to some registration centres in Techiman South Constituency indicate that there was no remarkable response on the first day of the exercise.
