The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Kintampo South District and World Vision International (WVI), an NGO, have initiated Child Parliament Concept groups in basic schools in the district.
The move was aimed at helping to train the pupils to become role models in future and also train and nurture the children to take up leadership roles and responsibilities through a democratic process of electing qualified leaders in the society.
Addressing more than 30 leadership youth selected from basic schools in doted areas of WVI operational sector in the district at a meeting at Jema, Mr Isaac Osei-Agyeman, District Director of the NCCE said the concept would also help prepare the pupils for school debates.
He said many of the youth felt shy to express themselves in public because of language barrier and expressed the conviction that the formation of Child’s Parliament would change the trend.
The Reverend James Sarfo-Adu, Programme Officer of WVI-Ghana, in-charge of Ayima-Mansie Area Development Programme lauded the concept, saying it would help unearth talented youth to take up leadership positions.
Mr. Peter Assaw Assuman, Presiding Member of the District Assembly who presided, gave the assurance of the Assembly’s support towards the achievement of the aims and objectives of the concept.**
