NCCE embarks on social auditing project

Japekrom (B/A) Sept 12, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has embarked on a social auditing project in some towns and villages in Jaman South District of Brong-Ahafo. The project, started last year, is aimed at increasing citizens’ participation in the decision making process and town and villages so far covered include Drobo, Atuna, Japekrom, Abirikasu, Gonasua and Kwasibourkrom.

Others are Nyamefie, Dwenem, Komfourkrom, Katakyiekrom and Babianeha.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Japekrom, Mr. Peter Kwaku Adinkra Kosopre, acting district director of the Commission explained that because the district excelled in last year’s exercise, the Commission hand approved the inclusion of seven more villages. Mr. Kosopre mentioned the villages as Faaman, Baano number two and Baano number one, Kofiko, Asare, Miremasu and Zezera. He expressed optimism that “all hands would be on deck” to make the exercise successful.

The acting district director explained that the citizens, as social auditors, would serve as watchdogs to make people in authority accountable to the communities.

Mr. Kosopre dispelled speculations that the exercise would bring about conflicts of interest as it would give some citizens the chance to demand from heads of department unnecessary accountability for their selfish gains.
