NCCE calls for constant interaction to promote democracy

Tokokoe (V/R), July 25, GNA – An official of the NCCE has appealed to communities to interact with state institutions whose functions were sensitive to the preservation of the rights of the citizenry. Mr Fidelis Attor, Deputy Volta Regional Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), said this at a forum on the Constitution and human rights at Tokokoe, near Ho on Thursday.

He said since the NCCE alone could not educate the public on every aspect of their rights and civic responsibilities it was necessary that other institutions were given the opportunity to address matters related to their functions.

Mr Attor said the consolidation of democracy required a bold and enlightened citizenry to articulate their views while allowing others to also make their views known.

” Anybody who does not act in conformity with the spirit and letter of the Constitution is subverting the supreme law of the land,” he said. Mr Attor said it was incumbent on every citizen to act in concert with each other to defend the rights of fellow citizens against abuse as “our collective survival depends on collective defence of our inalienable rights as guaranteed by the Constitution”.
