NCA issues 2.5Ghz spectrum

The Ghana’s National Commissions Authority (NCA) issued spectrum in the 2.5GHz band to local companies GoldKey Properties and Broadband Home (BBH).

According to the NCA statement, GoldKey won a paired slot of 2x15MHz for US$5 million. BBH was bidding for frequencies it was already occupying and as a result was issued a 30MHz continuous slot for US$5.5 million. The license duration is 10 years.

According to the NCA, there is still spectrum available in the 2.5Ghz band, which leaves room for major players to apply in their own time. The NCA however requires that 30% of any company bidding for the spectrum to be Ghanaian held. NCA stated that there was currently no spectrum available in the 2.3Ghz band.
