Natural hazards causes power outages in Akim Oda

Akim Oda (E/R), Oct. 22, GNA – Mr Henry Richardson, the Birim Central Municipal Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has explained that the main causes of power outages in the municipality is due to natural hazards and not deliberate. He made this known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in Akim Oda on Wednesday, on the frequent power outage in the area. Akim Oda and its environs had been experiencing power outages between five to six days within a week and about two to four times a day. The situation had raised complaints from the company’s clients that their electrical appliances sometimes get damaged and also did not facilitate office work.

The GNA here and other sensitive establishments had not been able to transmit stories and documents respectively, during the period. Mr Richardson explained further that since the area was situated in the forest zone, one could not deny the fact that heavy downpours and trees falling on high-tension cables culminated in the rampant power outages in the area.

Mr Richardson said Oda’s source of electricity was from Akwatia, adding that, in between the two towns is a forest full of timber and other ‘tall’ trees.

The Municipal Director disabused the notion that transformers handling the electricity were old and weak. He used the occasion to advice customers to settle their bills on time to avoid disconnections, which might worsen their plight in enjoying lights. Mr Richardson said the situation was painful, but since that was a natural hazard, “we have to pray for a better time”.
