NATO Secretary General arrives

Accra, Nov 20, GNA – Mr Jaap De Hoop Scheffer, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), arrived in the country last night at the invitation of President John Agyekum Kufuor. During his visit, Mr Scheffer would attend a dinner to be hosted by Mr Albet Kan-Dapaa, Minister of Defence, call on President Kufuor, and also visit the Asantehene.

Mr James Appathurai, NATO Spokesperson, told journalists at the Kotoka International Airport, that with President Kufuor’s experience with the African Union (AU), the visit was expected to afford NATO the opportunity of learning from the President, how best he would be of assistance to the AU.

Mr Scheffer is expected to leave on Friday. At the airport to meet the NATO General Secretary, was Mr Kan-Dapaa.
