Nationwide ‘dumsor’: We lost supply from GRIDCo – ECG

The Electricity Company of Ghana has blamed the nationwide power outage being experienced in the country on the loss of power supply from Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo).

Majority of Ghanaians went to bed without power Wednesday night after what appeared to be a nationwide blackout hit the West African nation.
The lights went off around 9pm GMT.

As of Thursday morning, several parts of the country are still without power.
Speaking to Starr News on the development, the PRO for the for ECG William Boateng said they lost the feed from GRIDCO unexpectedly.

“We lost the feed from GRIDCO around 9:51, but as I talk to you, we have started picking load and so some areas have power.

Meanwhile, GRIDCo has explained that the challenge was caused by sudden ‘disturbances’ in their equipment.

The last time a nationwide blackout hit Ghana was in January 2016 as a result of system failure.
