National Teachers Association Holds Conference

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) yesterday held a press conference to inform the general public about its 48th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference to be held from January 8 to 12, 2002 at the University of Ghana, Legon.

The Principal of the University College of Education, Winneba Professor J. Anmuah-Mensah would deliver the keynote address at the conference, which is under the theme “Fifteen Years of New Educational Reforms – The Way Forward.”

The Deputy General Secretary of GNAT, Mrs. Irene Duncan-Adanusa said over 700 delegates including foreigners from teacher organisaitons from Denmark, South Africa, Sweden, Nigeria and neighbouring unions in Ghana are expected to participate.

She said the conference would focus on a five-year development plan on six major areas: Professional Development and Membership Education, Human Resource Development, Development Management Information Systems and Database, Finance, Physical Development and Economic and Welfare Activities.

Other areas are GNAT’s role in National Development and coalition with other civil society groups.

Five national officers, the National President, the vice, treasurer and the two national trustees would be elected.

Mrs. Duncan-Adanusa invited the general public and well wishers to the official opening scheduled for January 9, next year.
