National Service Scheme participates in sanitation exercise

The National Service Scheme (NSS) led by Mr Michael Kpessa-Whyte, acting Director on Saturday joined in the National Sanitation exercise to clean parts of Kanda and Nima Clusters of schools in Accra.

The group undertook the four-hour exercise to clean gutters, swept, weeded over grown bushes and burnt rubbishes.

It was on the theme: “A Clean Ghana – Our Choice and Responsibility.”

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Ambrose Entsiwah (Jnr), Public Relation Officer of the NSS described the exercise as successful and encouraging. He said since the sanitation is a new initiative there are bound to be some teething problems but as it progresses “we would overcome the bottlenecks”.

Mr Entsiwah expressed satisfaction for the way the service personnel showed commitment in participating in the cleanup exercise and urged the citizens not to be left out.

He called on institutions and individuals to come along with the Service Scheme to help make the country clean to avoid diseases.

Mr Entsiwah took the opportunity to assured service personnel whose allowances, have not been paid especially those in the Greater Accra Region that all hurdles had been cleared for payment.

He expressed gratitude to the media and the sponsors of the programme, SG-SSB, SSNIT, Kasapreko Alomo Bitters, Fidelity Bank and others for their prompt response to the exercise.
