National Peace Council to meet factions in Hohoe

The National Peace Council is to meet factions in the Hohoe disturbances, Professor Emmanuel Asante, Chairman of the group, hinted in Ho on Wednesday.

He said the meeting was aimed at ensuring lasting peace in the Hohoe Municipality, following disturbances in the town a few weeks ago.

Prof. Asante announced this when members of the Council paid a courtesy call on Mr. Henry Ford Kamel, Volta Regional Minister, while on their peace mission to Hohoe.

He said the Council followed the Hohoe incident closely and believed that it was now time to “come in and push the peace efforts forward. We want to see peace in Ghana, if not, whatever we do with the right hand, we will destroy with the left hand”.

Prof. Asante commended Mr. Kamel and the media in the region for managing information on the situation professionally, and said that he was confident that peace would prevail in Hohoe.

He said the work of the Council would be facilitated by briefings it had received from Mr. Kamel.

Mr. Kamel said the situation in Hohoe was dicey and therefore welcomed the intervention of the National Peace Council.

“Though people are no longer taking up weapons, the situation is dicey and more work need to be done,” he said.

Togbe Kwaku Ayim IV, Paramount Chief of Ziavi Traditional Area, who represented the Volta Regional House of Chiefs welcomed the Council to the region, and said there were still “undercurrents” in Hohoe.**
