National Identification Authority to serve as database

Kumasi, July 29, GNA- The establishment of the National Identification Authority (NIA) by the government is to create a national data to help implement the National Identification system. The NIA is also to serve as a national register to collect and provide accurate and comprehensive information on the population to facilitate and support the social, economic and political development of the country.

Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, stated this at an emergency meeting of the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) in Kumasi on Thursday.

The meeting attended by the District Chief Executives (DCEs), Presiding Members, heads of departments and the press, was to brief them about the work of the NIA.

The meeting was also to facilitate the building of a strong partnership between the NIA and the RCC.

He noted that most successful nations the world over, have the ability to manage their limited resources effectively and efficiently because they have relevant data on them.

The Regional Minister said the country stands to gain a lot from that programme and urged all stakeholders to educate the people about the work and activities of the NIA.

Mr Boafo hoped that the interaction would greatly enhance the setting up of the regional and district operational offices in the country.
