National Consultative Forum on Technical and Vocational Education

Accra, April 16, GNA- The National Consultative Forum on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) that was scheduled to take place from the April 20 to April 21 2004 has been postponed to Tuesday May 4 and Wednesday May 5 this year. A statement issued by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in Accra on Friday said the Forum, which is aimed at building a consensus on National Policy for technical and Vocational Education would, however, be held at the same venue- the Accra International Conference Centre.

It would be under the theme: “Demand Driven Training for Industrialisation”.

The statement said a Technical and Vocational Education and Training Policy Framework has been evolved through a series of consultations among various stakeholder Ministries and private agencies on the need for a comprehensive national policy on technical and vocational education.

The main objective of the policy framework is to integrate the different types of technical and vocational education and training in the formal as well as non-formal sectors, from the elementary to the tertiary level, into one comprehensive demand-driven system.

Participants are to include Ministers, Chief Directors of stakeholder Ministries, and Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Industrialist, Employers, Development Partners, Educational Attach=E9s of Embassies of ECOWAS Countries, the Trades Union Congress and Non-governmental Organisations.

Others are educationists, consultants in Technical and Vocational education and a host of others from Universities and the private and public sectors. 16 April 04
