National Concord Joins the Newsstands

The National Concord, a twelve-page tabloid was launched last week in Accra. Mr. Ebenezer Kese Antwi also known as Steve Biko, the Managing Editor of the Concord, said the need for new newspapers exists even though there are many private papers on the market.

He said a variety of mass communication outlets play a crucial role in informing and educating the people.

Explaining the paper’s name, he said “concord” means “agreement” or “harmony” and the National Concord seeks to ensure that harmony prevails in Ghana by promoting the virtues of freedom and justice.

He added that said that the paper is non-partisan.

A representative of the National Media Commission(NMC) said, he looked forward to the day when there will be a 32-page private newspaper with the capacity to circulate fifty thousand copies nation wide. The representative of the NMC deplored the speculative tendencies of some of the private newspapers.

Mr. Kwaku Baako, Editor of the Crusading Guide said the private newspapers are lagging behind because of lack of investment. He wished the paper well.

The first copy was auctioned at 1.5 million cedis.
