Narkwa unit committee inaugurated

Narkwa (C/R), May 22, GNA – The Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, has urged unit committee members to be the bedrock of the Better Ghana Agenda of the government Inaugurating a unit committee at Narkwa in the Ekumfi Traditional Area,

Mr Hayfron said the success of every Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies largely depended on the level of cooperation between unit committee members, chiefs and assembly members in the discharge of the functions of the assembly. He urged them to avoid in-fighting over superiority and recognition. The MCE entreated them to work in unison as a corporate entity with a common goal of developing their communities and delivering service to their people. He urged unit committee members to serve their people and the country in a way and manner that would let the people appreciate the fact that they were fully participating in a decision making process and governance of the nation.

Mr Hayfron advised that in the discharge of their functions, unit committee members should have due regard to national interest and the interest of the people of the district. This, he said presupposed that members should relegate their personal parochial interest to the background. He said as representatives of the President and first servants of the State at the community level, members must comport themselves in their administrative units to demonstrate to the people that they were indeed available as chief servants of the community.

The MCE said as new unit committee members, they must come out with new strategies in collaboration with management of the assembly to generate adequate revenue to complement efforts of the Municipal Assembly and government in the development of the communities. He urged them to ensure that funds provided by the central government as well as the internally generated funds were prudently managed. Mr Hayfron advised them to ensure that the environmental sanitation was properly managed. Fifty-seven out of the 62 unit committees in the Municipality had been inaugurated.
