Nanumba South DCE calls for rehabilitation of roads network

Wulensi (NR), June 23, GNA – Mr Thomas Donkor Okaja, Nanumba South District Chief Executive (DCE), has decried the poor road network in the District, which had resulted in the District’s slow pace of development. He said the District was the hub of yam production in the Northern Region, but due to the poor road infrastructure farmers in the area found it difficult to convey their produce to Bimbilla and other nearby market centres for sale. The DCE also called for measures to provide the people with good drinking water to prevent any possible outbreak of water related diseases and to enhance the living standards of the people.

Mr Okaja told the GNA in an interview in Wulensi at the weekend that the people had been grateful to the NPP government for carving the Nanumba South District out of the Nanumba North and stressed the importance of tarring the roads. He said the District had investment potentials such that if the roads were accessible investors would focus on yam, cassava, soybeans, cashew and other crop production for both domestic use and for export to boost the country’s economy. The DCE appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Department of Feeder Roads to consider working on the roads in the area to promote the development of the area. He expressed gratitude to the government for committing much funds for development infrastructure, saying that most of the infrastructure facilities had been completed while others were progressing.

Mr Okaja mentioned the Wulensi Police Station charge office and other important facilities such as the Assembly Hall Complex and bungalows for the DCE and the District Coordinating Director, which had been completed. He expressed the hope that the NPP would continue to win the Wulensi parliamentary seat as a way of saying “thank you” to the government for giving them a new district. He appealed to the rank and file of the party to remain united and work harder to retain the seat so that the government would give them more development to justify the confidence reposed in it.
