Wa, June 16, GNA – Past students of the Nandom Senior Secondary School currently studying at the University of Ghana, Legon have initiated a “Book/Pamphlet Project” aimed at raising 15 million cedis through contributions to acquire modern textbooks and pamphlets to stock the School’s Library.
As a major step towards realising their objective, the students have already purchased assorted textbooks at a total cost of one million cedis for presentation to the school.
The books, which were at the weekend shown to the Ghana News Agency at Wa by Mr Patrick Dugle, President of the University Ghana Student Branch of the Old Boys Association, covered Core Mathematics, Core Science and Integrated Science.
They also included Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Geography, Government, French, Business Mathematics, Costing and Accounting textbooks.
Mr Dugle said each of the 70 old boys in Legon is expected to pay 20,000 cedis as levy per semester to enable them to achieve the goal of the project.
He said due to the perennial lack of teachers for some of the major subjects, the success of the school over the years, had depended on a well- stocked library, which needed continued replenishment to match with changing trends in education.
He said, though as students, they had no regular income, they were sacrificing to help their alma mater and called on well-endowed old boys of the school outside campuses to support the school to maintain its success story.
The school placed 28th in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination results released last year.
