Apam (C/R), Dec. 6, GNA – Nana Kwame Ntoah IV, Tufuhene of Apam, who died at Cape Coast on June 8, 2006 was buried at Apam at the weekend. He was 73.
The town was jammed by traffic and sympathizers who travelled far and near to pay their last respect to the chief, known for his philanthropic life.
Known in private life as Mr Kwame Eyiah, the Tufuhene was the Managing Director of 91K.E. and Sons Limited’, a road and building construction firm, Abura Nkwantanan Salt Industry at Apam, Eyiaba Stone Quarry at Gomoa Assin and the proprietor of Greenland Hotel at Agona Swedru.
Though a Catholic, Nana had strong interest in Asafo and supported the two Asafo companies in Apam Tuafo and Dentsi in many ways. However, the two companies could not see Nana off to his maker as disagreements between the two over the use of a colour nearly resulted in a bloody fight on the second day of the funeral so they were banned from further participation.
Nana was laid in state for four days. Mr Kwame Eyiah who was installed Tufuhene of Apam in 1990, was also the Nkosuohene of Gomoa District. He brought many development projects to the district and Apam in particular.
He left behind 27 children and 50 grand children. At the funeral were dignitaries including delegations from the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.
