Nana Konadu & others charged

Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and Directors of Caridem Company Limited- Sherry Ayittey, Georgina Okaitei and George Mould and Larry Adjetey are expected to be charged today (Thursday) for conspiracy to commit crime namely fraud, contrary to section23 (i) and 131 of Act 29 of 1960.

Charged alongside the directors of Caridem and the Caridem Company Limited is Mr Emmanuel Amuzu Agbodo, a former executive secretary of the Divestiture Implementation Commission (DIC).

All of them were said to have acted together with a common purpose to commit crime, namely defrauding by false pretences in the sale of GIHOC Nsawam Canary to Caridem company limited which belongs to Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and her 31ST December Women?s Movement (31st DWM)

They are also to be charged on a second count for defrauding by false pretence contrary to section 131 of Act 29 of 1960.

A source close to the Police CID said the accused around the 5th October 2000 in a purported sales and purchase agreement with intent to defraud represented to government of Ghana that they owned only one billion three hundred and twenty million seven hundred and seventy six thousand, four hundred cedis (1,320,776,400.00).

This amount represents the balance price of Nsawam Cannery limited when the original outstanding total balance was ? 9,261,229,270.

Subsequently they got the consent of the Government of Ghana to part with they ownership of the Nsawam Cannery.

Mr Agbodo and Nana Konadu, the source said are to be charged on a third count of forgery of official document contrary to section 158 of Act 29 of 1960.
