Nana Akufo-Addo for ECOWAS-EU meeting

Accra, Sept 3 GNA – Nana Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs on Friday left Accra to attend the ECOWAS-EU meeting of Foreign Ministers in Maastricht, Holland on Saturday, 4th September 2004.

The meeting is at the invitation of Mr Bernard Bot, the Dutch Foreign Minister and current President of the Council of EU ministers. A statement issued and signed by Michael Ofori-Atta, Public Relation Officer of the Ministry, said the purpose of the meeting would be to discuss methods of improving ECOWAS-EU relations and cooperation in the fields of peace and security as well as modalities for accessing the EU Peace Facility for Africa.

The African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson, Professor Alpha Omar Konare and the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa, Dr. K.Y. Amoako, would also attend the meeting that comes The Foreign Minister is expected to return to Accra on 6th Sept. 2004.
