Nana Addo’s 1 district 1 factory plan won’t work – TEGLEU

Plans by the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to establish a factory in each of the 216 districts across the country if he becomes the next president of Ghana will not work, Mr Abraham Koomson, General Secretary of the Textile, Garment and Leather Employees Union (TEGLEU) of the Ghana Federation of Labour, has said.

Mr Akufo-Addo said his government would embark on a factory building spree as part of plans to industrialise the economy.

But speaking with Prince Minkah, host of the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Wednesday June 23, Mr Koomson said: “It is not feasible, it will not work, it will never work. It is easier said than done. You may say so many things. …The few that we have now, let’s protect them, let’s sustain them.

“Is it that if tomato is grown in Ada, then we go and put one factory there to process tomato? If [in the] north, they rear cow, so we go and put a factory there?” he wondered, adding: “I don’t know the type of industries that are going to be cited or located there.”

Meanwhile, Mr Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to ignore sceptics, who have consistently bastardised policies and programmes he announces. “Anytime I bring an idea, my political opponents will say: ‘He cannot do it’, only to turn round, use the backdoor, and try to implement it.”
