Nana Addo to support Melcom disaster victims with GH¢10,000

The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged to support victims of the Melcom disaster with an amount of ten thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢10,000).

Nana Addo made the pledge when he paid a visit to the site of the collapsed building on Friday afternoon with other big wigs of the NPP.

Nana Addo has received some flak from a section of the public for prioritizing his campaign ahead of the disaster that has claimed ten lives.

The six-storey Achimota branch of Melcom collapsed on Wednesday morning shortly after it was opened.

Over 70 people have so far been pulled out of the rubble with 10 people also confirmed dead.

The death toll is however likely to rise after five more people were discovered buried under slabs of stones Friday morning with the help of the eight-man rescue team from Israel.

Nana Addo speaking to Journalists, consoled families who have lost relatives and encouraged the rescue team to do everything possible to ensure that those trapped are pulled out alive.

He added that aside from the GH¢10,000 pledge, he would continue to assist the victims in any way possible.

Flagbearers of the NDC, PNC and CPP have already paid a visit to the site of the collapsed building.
