Nana Addo replies Alan’s men

Two-time Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described as “wholly untrue” statements made by supporters of Alan Kyerematen that he approached leadership of the party prior to the 2000 elections to have then candidate John Agyekum Kufuor replaced.

The allegation was made at Mr Kyerematen’s campaign launch last Saturday by Dr Richard Anane, who mentioned Former Accra Mayor Nii Adjiri Blankson as masterminder of that scheme.

But in a statement issued on Thursday by Nana Addo’s office, the statements made on Mr Kyerematen’s campaign platform were an attempt to “rewrite history”.

“Nana Akufo-Addo did not instruct any member of his campaign team to approach the party leadership to change the elected flagbearer of the party in 1998, nor was any such approach made,” the statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Nana Addo’s Press Secretary, said.

Ms Hilda Addo, the Ashanti Region Coordinator of Mr Kyerematen’s Campaign, also alleged that Former Defence Minister and brother of Former President Kufuor, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, supported Nana Addo at the expense of his brother’s candidature in 1998.

“Additionally, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor was not a member of Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign team in the run-up to the Sunyani congress of 1998, neither did he offer any support to Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign.”

The statement called for condemnation of such acts.

Nana Addo together with Francis Addai-Nimoh and Mr Kyerematen will on October 18 contest the party’s flagship delegates’ conference, which will elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2016 Presidential Elections.
