Nana Addo ‘mocked in a coffin’ at NDC manifesto launch

Some supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday, September 17, stormed the Sunyani Coronation Park, venue of the launch of the NDC’s manifesto ahead of this year’s elections, with a coffin bearing posters of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Pictures emanating from the venue show some young men in NDC T-shirts carrying the coffin with Mr Akufo-Addo’s campaign posters.

The NDC is set to launch its manifesto of more than 100 pages in the Brong Ahafo regional capital.

President John Dramani Mahama presented highlights of the manifesto at the Banquet Hall in Accra on Tuesday September 13, capturing areas such as the economy, education, sports, health, and accountable governance, among others.

The party expressed confidence of a successful manifesto launch after the Ghana Police Service stopped the Aggrieved Customers of DKM Diamond Microfinance Ltd., God is Love Fun Club, And Other Microfinance Companies from going ahead with their planned demonstration on the same day.

Meanwhile, a downpour at Sunyani on Saturday, September 17, brought activities to a halt, adversely affecting the manifesto launch.

Class FM’s Brong Ahafo regional correspondent, Claude Kumi Abisa, reported that the rains began on the night of Friday, September 16, and more rains on Saturday morning forced some NDC supporters to take cover in buses that had conveyed them to the venue.

As of 10am, organisers were now setting the place up for the programme by erecting canopies and other equipment needed for the programme. According to Claude, the Sunyani Coronation Park had become waterlogged after the deluge.
