Nana Addo leading in the Northern Region

Tamale, August 7, GNA – Results so far trickling in from some constituencies in the Northern Region, indicates that, Nana Dankwa Akufo Addo is in the lead over the other contestants, in the race for the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for the 2012 general elections.

In the Tamale central constituency, Nana Addo got 438 votes, with his closest rival, Alan Kyeremanteng, getting 15 votes; Mr Isaac Osei, 5 votes, while Professor Frimpong Boateng and Lawyer Kodua had no votes.

In the Tamale North Constituency, Nana Addo had 334 votes, Alan Kyeremateng 53, Frimpong Boateng 4, whilst Mr Isaac osei and lawyer Kodua had no votes.

For the Tamale south constituency, Nana Addo had 373 votes, Alan Kyeremanteng 52, Prof Frimpong Boateng 6, Kodua, 4 votes, and Isaac Osei, no vote.

In the Yendi Municipality, Nana Addo had 309, Frimpong Boateng 2, Alan Kyeremanteng 1 and Isaac osei and lawyer Kodua, no votes.

In the Nanton constituency, Nana Addo got 336 votes with Alan Kyeremateng getting 27 votes, while in the Savelugu constituency Nana Addo got 403 votes, Alan Kyeremanteng 21, Isaac Osei 8 and Frimpong Boateng zero.

A total of 11,238 delegates in the Northern Region were expected to cast their votes in 2046 polling stations to elect a Flag bearer for the Party in the 2012 general elections.

Earlier in the morning voting went off smoothly in all the polling stations.

Some of the delegates, who spoke to the GNA, highly commended the expansion of the Electoral College, which had enabled most of them to participate in the elections for the first time in the party’s history.

They said the system had also made things easier for them, as they were spared the hustle and bustle associated with travelling all the way to the selected region for the congress to undertake this exercise as was previously done.
