Nana Addo – Alan Supporters In Text ‘war’

A support group known as the “Nana Addo One Touch” group in the Ashanti region is being accused by an ally to former Presidential Aspirant, Alan Kyeremanten of being behind some unsavoury text messages which are being used to disparage certain party members.

These latest series of text messages follow earlier threatening ones allegedly sent to persons such as Mr Akenten Appiah Menka, the Party’s Ashanti regional Chairman of the Council of elders.

The recent text comments are thought to have targeted party person like Dr Richard Anane and others perceived to be either close to former President John Kufuor or his protégé, Allan Kyeremanten.

Mr Joseph Amoah, a close ally to Alan Kyeremanten, in an interview with Citi News, alleged that the unsavoury text messages were from Nana Addo’s supporters in the region who had been paid to so.

He read portions of some of the text comments which described Dr. Richard Anane, as the most corrupt minister in Kufuor’s government.

Another text message, allegedly accused the former President, J.A Kufuor of leaving behind a legacy of “criminals and fraudsters” for the Ashanti regional NPP.

But the General Secretary of the “Nana Addo One Touch” group, Mr J K Boampong says the allegations are ridiculous.

“If he has evidence of whatever he is saying, let him produce it. I have no time for nonentities.” He retorted angrily.

Although the next general elections are some three years away, internal lobbying and campaign for that one man to lead the NPP has started in earnest.

The 2008 flagbearer, Nana Akuffo and Alan Kyeremanteng obviously top the list of interested persons in the position.

Some party stalwarts have openly declared support for the 2008 flagbearer, Nana Akuffo Addo for 2012.

Party bigwigs like Haruna Esseku and Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe have contended that Nana Addo is the most marketable product in the party and therefore he, more than any other person, can win power for the NPP in 2012.

Last week, a call by the party’s former National Chairman, Haruna Esseku on Alan to defer his presidential ambitions for eight more years was greeted with mixed reactions from party faithful.

While some endorsed his call, several others chastised the ex chairman for his comments.
