Namibian President arrives in Accra for three-day State visit

Accra, June 25, GNA – The Namibian President Dr Sam Nujoma on Friday arrived in Accra for a three-day State visit. President John Agyekum Kufuor met him on arrival. Other dignitaries at the airport were Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ministers of State, Mr Ibrahim Omar, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Lieutenant-General Seth Obeng, Chief of Defence Staff and other government officials.

Speaking to newsmen, President Nujoma expressed his delight to be in Ghana, which he refers to as his second home. He said the focus of his visit was to promote trade especially when both countries are rich in natural and human resources. President Nujoma reiterated that African States must trade among themselves, which he said was far better than trading with the developed countries.

“We have a task of implementing what our founding fathers of the African Union (AU) decided upon,” he added. He noted that his country was rich in fishing resources, which must be exploited by African countries to their benefit. President Kufuor acknowledged that the Namibian leader was no stranger to Ghana since his relations with country dated back to the early 1960’s when both countries were struggling for independence. Earlier on arrival the Namibian leader inspected a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Ghana Air Force made up of three officers and 96 men under the command of Squadron Leader Parker while a 21-gun salute boomed in the background.
