Nadowli DCE warns against fishing with chemicals

Nadowli, Oct 04, GNA – Wing Commander Eric Dakurah (RTD), the Nadowli District Chief Executive, has warned against the use of chemicals in fishing in the rivers of the district. The act, he said, was not only criminal but also destructive and dangerous to both human beings and other living things that also depend on the same water source.

Wing Commander Dakurah said this when he addressed chiefs, people, teachers and pupils at Nadowli during the celebration of World Habitat Day.

The programme, which was instituted by the United Nations two decades ago to educate people on the need to provide decent shelter and keep the environment clean, attracted teachers and school children from the first and second cycle institutions who took a march past with written messages on the environment.

The DCE appealed to teachers to step up the teaching of Environmental Studies in schools in order to whip up the enthusiasm of their students to become conscious of environmental issues. He also appealed to chiefs to safeguard water bodies so that people would not pollute them.

Wing Commander Dakurah commended the Nadowli Catholic Students Union for embarking on environmental programmes that, he said, would inspire other individuals and groups to undertake similar ventures.
