Nadowli Assembly allocates C100m for unemployed youth

Nadowli (U/W), Oct. 31, GNA – The Nadowli District Assembly has allocated 100 million cedis for disbursement as loans to unemployed youth in the District, who have acquired vocational skills, to enable them to set up their own businesses.

The National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) has been tasked to identify the beneficiary, disburse the amount and take the responsibility of recovery.

Mrs Pauline Ninkpeng, District Chief Executive, said this at the third ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Nadowli on Thursday. She decried the inability of beneficiaries of the Poverty Alleviation Fund to repay loans granted to them.

Out of 404 million cedis given to beneficiaries, only 134 million cedis had been collected as September this year.

Mrs Ninkpeng said the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs had released 150 million cedis for disbursement to 300 women in the District this year.

Last year, 150 women in the district benefited from 75 million cedis from the Ministry.

She said a Maternal/Child Clinic at Nadowli, two clinics at Sankana and Chari-Sombo, five boreholes at Saan, Sanpina, Kornee, Kaahaa and Johinyiri have been completed in the District with funds from the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Fund.

Other HIPIC projects, which included two day-care centres at Naro and Kojokpere and a KVIP at Owlo were at various stages of completion. Mr Boye Bandie, a Member of the Assembly, called for a foolproof mechanism in the Assembly to reduce the rate of default in the repayment of loans.
