NADMO presents items to victims at Techiman

Hansua, (B/A), July 9, GNA – The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) on Monday presented 16 bundles of roofing sheets, 27 bags of rice, three bails of second-hand clothing, a quantity of matches and key soap to victims of rainstorm at Brigade near Hansua in the Techiman Municipality.

The items valued at 3,790 Ghana cedis were made available through the efforts of Mr Simmons Addai, Member of Parliament for Techiman South.

A down-pour on May 30 this year ripped off the roofs of more than 18 houses rendering over 240 people homeless including the Mount Camel Primary School.

Mr Alex Kyeremeh, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Techiman, commended the MP for the initiative and gave the assurance that efforts were being made for assistance from banking institutions, philanthropist and private business concerns among others to help rehabilitate the collapsed buildings.

The MCE charged the people to prevent further tragedies by planting trees around their houses to serve as wind breaks during rainstorms.

The MP reiterated the need to take preventive measures to complement government’s efforts in managing disaster in the country.
