NADMO goes to the aid of Bunkpurugu displaced persons

Tamale, Aug 11, GNA – Some 477 households in nine communities in the Bunkpurugu/Yanyoo District have received the fourth consignment of relief items from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in fulfilment of government’s promise of assisting those affected during the conflicts.

The items included 200 bags of rice, 200 bags of maize, 100 bags of beans, 100 cartons of cooking oil, 30 packets of roofing sheets and 10 packets of roofing nails, the Northern Regional Coordinator of NADMO, Alhaji Mahama Abdulai Silimboma, told the GNA in Tamale on Wednesday.

He said the items were distributed to Kambatiak, Gbankoni, Gbaduak, Nasiabuak, Tobong, Bufuak, Kajawei, Temaa and Bunboung No 2 communities.

Alhaji Silimboma appealed to the development partners to come to the aid of the people with relief items before the harvesting season.

He said life at Bunkprurgu/Yanyoo communities involved in the conflicts had returned to normal saying, 93The police and military personnel in the area must be commended for their dedicated service which is yielding the desired peace in the area”.

Alhaji Silimboma appealed to the people to learn from their bitter experience and foster unity and peace.

It would be recalled that some six communities in the Bunkpurugu/Yanyoo District were involved in some communal conflicts early this year resulting in the death of four persons and rendering thousands of people homeless.

The situation led some to flee from the area to nearby Togolese towns.
