NADMO distributes relief items to rainstorm victims at Chereponi

The Northern Region Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has presented relief items to its (NADMO) Chereponi District Office for onward distribution to victims of last month’s wind and rainstorm disaster at the district to help alleviate their plight.

The items included 60 mini bags of maize, 60 mini bags of rice, 50 bags of cement, 20 packets of roofing sheets, two bales of used clothing, 40 pieces of blankets, five cartons of mosquito coil, 150 pieces of plastic plates, 150 pieces of plastic cups, 10 pieces of plastic basins.

The April 20, 2014 wind and rainstorm disaster, which swept through the district, caused havoc to a number of property, by ripping off roofs of public and private buildings, making some of the affected residents to put up with relatives.

Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Northern Regional Minister, who led NADMO officials to hand over the items to officials of the Chereponi District at Chereponi on Wednesday advised that the items be given to those severely affected and who could not afford them.

Alhaji Abdulai Silimboma, Northern Regional Coordinator of NADMO urged residents to use strong and durable materials when building houses and other structures to prevent them from being destroyed by wind or rainstorm.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Limuna also paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Chereponi Traditional Area to seek his (chief’s) blessings and support for his (Minister) administration.
