NADMO calls for adherence to building regulations

Sunyani, Aug 17, GNA – Mr Kwasi Annan-Frimpong, the Sunyani Municipal Director of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), on Tuesday urged Ghanaians to build their house according to building regulations to help forestall environmental disasters. In an interview with the GNA, he called on the Lands Department, surveyors, Town and Country Planning and the Environmental protection Agency to collaborate with NADMO to bring environmental crisis to the barest minimum.

Mr Ansa-Frimpong mentioned domestic fire outbreak as the main crisis in the municipality reiterating that preliminary investigations indicated that such occurrences were as a result of electrical faults. NADMO has recorded four cases of domestic fire outbreak from January as compared to seven cases the whole of last year.

He called for an intensive public education on the use of some electrical gadgets and rehabilitating wiring of old houses. Mr Annan-Frimpong said the incidence of bush-fire had been reducing in the municipality for the past four years, attributing this to periodic sensitisation of people and the vigilance of fire volunteer groups as well as the officials of the Ghana National Fire Service.
