The Western Regional Office of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) over the weekend schooled some inmates and officers of the Sekondi Central Prison on the harmful effects of hard drugs such as cocaine, heroin and marijuana.
Ms. Ellen Addai, an Officer at the Demand Reduction Department, told the Ghana News Agency that the Board had adopted an education programme on Prevention as key in fighting the use of drugs, especially among school children and teenagers.
She mentioned that such education was to serve as an eye opener to users of these hard drugs, its effects and legal implications.
Ms. Addai mentioned some signs in people who abuse of drugs as having reddened eyes, violent behavior and liking isolation.
She has, therefore, entreated society to join the NACOB in the fight against drugs.
A similar education programme was held at the Sekondi Central Mosque, while some schools and other institutions would also have their turns
