‘My kindred is on fire’ – Agogo Akyeamehene

The Akyeamehene of Asante Akyem Agogo in the Ashanti Region, Nana Boakye Yiadom has revealed that Agogo township and its environs is on a time bomb due to nefarious activities by Fulani herdsmen.

‘Our town is on fire, outsiders do not feel our pains we are really suffering here, farmers crops have been destroyed by the cattle belonging to Fulanis. They are destroying our water bodies, maiming and killing people,’ he lamented.

Nana Yiadom who was speaking during a visit by the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Kudalor, the Chief of Army Staff Major General Poku Adusei, Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye and other security Capos to the area, bemoaned the constant harassment residents have been subjected to by alien Fulani herdsmen.

He asserted that they have endured atrocities perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen, saying though they have men who can face the Fulanis squarely, they prefer government resolving the issue through the legitimate means.

‘Agogo indigenes have endured nefarious activities perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen in Agogo and its environs for far too long, and we cannot cope anymore. Though we have men in this town who can face the Fulanis boot-for -boot we won’t fight, we know that government which has all the resources and equipment at its disposal can solve this menace for us,’ he said.

Nana Yiadom explained that curbing this menace is of interest to Agogo indigenes.

The Asante Akyem Agogo Akyeamehene indicated that they have lots of patience, expressing hope that government would be able solve the pending matter in the shortest possible time.

‘We try to let the government be in the loop about the things that go on in our villages. We are calling on government to come to our aid by stopping this menace,’ he said.
