The former MP, who was the Deputy Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs during the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, was under cross examination in a case in which his estranged girlfriend is standing trial with two others for robbing and causing harm to him.
According to Mr. Danquah-Adu, he visited the rented apartment of Narteley, a graduate of the university of Ghana, located at East Legon on her invitation, and when he got to the bedroom, Narteley, whom he had been in a relationship with for three years, “unzipped my trousers and it fell down.”
The former MP said at that instance, he heard the door of the bathroom swing open, and heard the click of a camera. Narteley is standing trial, together with Charles Antwi and Nana Yaw Ampong, on charges of conspiracy to rob and causing harm to the former MP for Abuakwa North. They have pleaded not guilty, and are currently remanded in police custody.
Mr. Danquah-Adu, who has an injured arm, told the court, presided over by Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh, that on pulling up his trousers after the click of a camera, Antwi and Ampong forcibly pushed him onto the bed.
According to him, all the accused persons attacked him and removed his pair of trousers, which contained GH¢1,000, denying that he attempted to wrestle the camera from Ampong. Mr. Danquah-Adu further stated that it was the accused persons who rather attacked him with knives, and as they swung the knife towards his head, he blocked it was his hand, resulting in the injury to his hand.
Witness told the court that his girlfriend actually wanted to hit his head with a chair, and Ampong taped his mouth to silence him.
Witness denied that his girlfriend used her cloth to tie the injured arm when blood was oozing out, noting that it was an onlooker who used his shirt to tie his arm.
Narteley Nettey Yirenkyiwaa was alleged to have organised Antwi and Ampong to take pictures of the former MP in a compromising situation.
In the course of taking the pictures, a struggle ensured, with the MP sustaining a cut, and allegedly losing his items, including a gold ring.
Hearing is adjourned to December 8, 2010.
