The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio constituency in Accra, Hon Nii Ayi Kwei Mankata, alias ?Tsofatse?, was last Friday, rushed to the 37th Military Hospital, following a complication he had after falling ill.
His son , Mr. Perry Nii Ayi Kushie Mankata, who was upset with the rumours, that he had died after suffering a stroke, told Daily Guide, ?My father is not dead, he is alive, and responding to treatment. I even, paid him a visit this morning, and we discussed a few things.
These rumours about his death have come about as a result of the change of ward at the hospital, where he is on admission?, he told Daily Guide on Saturday evening.
Hon Mankata was, earlier, on admission at the Ussher Community Clinic, Accra, from where he was rushed to the 37th Military Hospital when doctors discovered that his condition was worsening.
His son, who confirmed this to Daily Guide indicated a doctor?s report at the medical facility revealed that the level of sugar in his blood was very high, a suggestion that he is diabetic.
According to him, on Monday, June 20, his father complained of bodily pains and fever, following which he consulted his personal doctor at the Ussher Clinic, where he was treated and discharged.
Three days later, he suffered a relapse, and he complained of dizziness, a situation which led to the doctors to advise that he be transferred from the clinic, to a hospital.
Soon after his transfer to the Military Hospital, a number of his supporters in the constituency, got wind of it, and rushed to visit him, but the authorities there, had transferred him to another ward.
The MP?s son explained that the doctors transferred his father, because they wanted him to have enough rest, adding that, visits to him were limited to his children, and his colleague MPs.
The recuperating MP has, so far, been visited by his colleague MPs as Hon E.T. Mensah, MP for Ningo Prampram, and a former MP for the constituency and Minister of the Interior in the NDC regime, Nii Okaija Adamafio.
Hon Mankata became a candidate for NDC in the 2004 elections, after Nii Lante Vanderpuye, stepped down for him, because he (Nii Lante) had been charged with an electoral fraud, leading to the 2004 polls.
Enquiries from the party indicate that the MP is in a stable condition, and would soon join his colleagues in Parliament.
