The MWRWH has projected 100 per cent coverage by 2025 to ensure efficiency within rural and urban communities. Other targets are increase in rural and small towns water coverage from 59 per cent in 2009 to 76 per cent in 2015 and 100 per cent in 2025.

This is being undertaken through the Strategic Sector Development Plan (SSDP) for the Water Sector in Ghana. Mr Attah Arhin, Project Manager announced this at the Zonal Consultative Workshops for stakeholders in the Southern Zone in Accra on Wednesday.

The zone comprises Greater Accra, Western, Central and Volta Regions. The SSDP policy was developed by the Government and stakeholders to guide the water sector in planning, development and management of the country’s water resources and delivery of domestic water supply services.

Its objectives are to sustain, develop, manage and use the water resources to improve health and livelihoods, reduce vulnerability now and for future generation.

Mr Arhin therefore called for a more holistic, co-ordination and result oriented approach to attract much needed internal and external financial and human resource for the sector.
