Agona Nyakrom (C/R), Oct 25, GNA – The Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has taken off in the Agona District of the Central Region with the zoning of communities and numbering of houses to facilitate the implementation.
The Agona District Assembly has agreed on 6,000 cedis monthly insurance premium to be paid by people of 16 years and above to strengthen the capital base of the scheme in the area.
Mr. Samuel Obodai, Member of Parliament for Agona-West Constituency, announced these at the close of a four-day annual Women’s Groups Convention organised by leaders of the Agona Swedru Area branch of the Apostolic Church Ghana, at Agona Nyakrom.
According to Mr. Obodai, various committees have already been established and intensive village-to-village as well as house-to-house education on the policy is underway in the District to make the people understand properly the need to change the Cash and Carry system of health policy and fully embrace the National Mutual Health Insurance policy.
He asked Churches in the area to join the NHIS educational crusade to speed up its implementation. Mr Obudai commended women in the country for the vital role they had been playing towards national development and charged them, particularly those affiliate to the various religious organisations, to initiate more useful programmes to unite the people for orderly national administration.
In his closing sermon, the Agona Swedru Area Apostle of the Apostolic Church Ghana, John Kojo Teye, urged Christians in the country to emulate the excellent works done by distinguished propagators of the Biblical tenets, who successfully blended their Divine functions with politics to enable them to play a key role in the country’s development. Apostle Teye said it is the cardinal responsibility of Christians to bring their divine qualities like, humility, unity, love, dedication, commitment and deep sense of fellow-feeling to- bare on the democratic dispensation to ensure effective and efficient transformation of the socio-economic and spiritual and cultural transformation.
He charged Christians, who constitutes the largest proportion of the country’s electorate, to held make the December general elections peaceful and total success.
