Muslims urged to participate fully in assembly elections

Otaakrom (Ash), Sept 14, GNA – Mr Wilberforce Owusu-Ansah, the Atwima-Mponua District Chief Executive, has called on the Muslim community to participate fully in the forthcoming district and unit committee elections to enable them elect people of their choice to represent them at the assembly.

He said the election is non-partisan and cautioned them not to wear any political party’s colours, flags and uniforms to polling stations.

The DCE made the call when he interacted with Muslim heads at Otaakrom near Nyinahin. Mr Owusu-Ansah advised the heads to educate their members on the need to cultivate communal spirit and clean-up exercises to keep their environs clean.

He urged Muslim parents to send their children to the Islamic primary and junior secondary schools at Otaakrom to enable them acquire both formal and Arabic education now that the capitation grant and school feeding programme have come to reduce the burden of parents. Mallam Sualihu Mohammed, the unit committee chairman, commended the district assembly for the construction of the school for the town. 14 Sept 06
