Muslims urged to live by the lessons of Ramadan

Ho, Aug 31, GNA – The Volta Region Chief Imam Alhaji Hamza Danjuma Wednesday urged Muslims to let the lessons of Ramadan reflect in their daily lives.

These include endurance, kindness, forgiveness, fellow feeling, humility and respect.

“We went through thirst and hunger to understand how it feels like to be hungry and thirsty, so that we would be ready to help others in those circumstances”, Alhaji Hamza said. He expressed worry that the country seemed to be losing the culture of respect which both Islam and Christianity uphold highly. Alhaji Hamza said leaders of the two religions in the country could not be absolved from blame because their followers form the majority of the citizenry.

“Allah will hold us accountable”, he said. On homosexuality, Alhaji Hamza said the practice was intolerable, 93we are looking at government and the President over the issue”. He said the issue required a national policy direction. Alhaji Hamza urged parents to watch their children closely and counsel them against being ensnared by the practice. The Volta Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Amenowode, said President John Atta Mills takes issues of morality seriously and would work to protect the country’s moral aptitude.

He urged Muslims to pray for the President and government 93in their bid to transform this country and promote good living standards”. Mr Amenowode presented 15 bags each of rice and maize and 10 cartons of cooking oil to the Muslim community while Captain George Nfodjo (rtd), the Member of Parliament for Ho Central, gave 1,000 Ghana cedis to the Muslims. 31 Aug 11
