Muslims pray to signify end of Ramadan

Cape Coast, Sept, 21, GNA – Muslims in the Cape Coast Metropolis turned out in their numbers at the Holy Child School Park where prayers were said to thank Allah for protecting and guiding them through the month of Ramadan.

The prayers marked the end of Ramadan, one of the five pillars of Islam, and the beginning of Eid-Ul-Fitr.

Mrs. Ama Benyiwa-Doe, Minister for Central Region, who joined the Muslims, in a short address, congratulated them for their immense contribution towards nation building and urged them to let the teachings of the Koran, continue to be their guiding principles for the promotion of peace and development.

She urged the youth to take the study of Science and Technology seriously to enable them to attract scholarships for further studies. Mrs Benyiwa-Doe said the day was significant because it had coincided with the Centenary celebration of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and asked Ghanaians, particularly the youth and those in authority, to reflect on his exemplary leadership to guide them to excel in all their endeavours.

For his part, the Sarakin Zongo, Alhaji Mamudu Gandi, appealed to the government to consider granting scholarships to needy but brilliant Muslims for them to attain the highest level of education, adding that the current dispensation placed much emphasis on education. He also advised the youth against engaging in cyber fraud, which has been termed “Sakawa,” but use their knowledge in ICT profitably by developing themselves and contributing to the growth of the nation. The deputy Central Region Chief Imam, Alhaji Yusif Kamatey, said prayers for prosperity and the peace for the nation.
