Accra, Sept. 5, GNA — The Ghana Office of the Revival of Islamic Heritage Society has hailed the Government’s decision to stop an international conference of gays and lesbians scheduled for this month saying it would have been an affront to Ghana’s reputation. In a letter addressed to President John Agyekum Kufuor the Society said it was happy that steps were being taken to identify and bring to book those, who sanctioned the use of the Accra International Conference Centre for the event.
The Society noted that Ghana was rated as a leading religious nation with citizens, who adhered to the teachings of the Koran and Bible which frowned on homosexuality.
“(Therefore) we do not have to re-enact the iniquities that led to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. As an Islamic organisation we do support the move by your Government to stop the gays and lesbians from organising a public function in Ghana.”
The Society said if illegal and immoral acts were allowed in the country they would have negative effects on the youth and children. It also called on religious bodies to deliberate on the 93upsurge of the sinful act in Ghana.
“If possible, the religious bodies could team up to sensitise the youth and children in schools and neighbourhoods to stay clear of that sinful act that has been condemned by God,” it said.
