Muslims burn down SDA Church, 3 houses

Tension is mounting in Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo region as the Muslim community in the area fights the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) over a parcel of land, StarrFMonline.com can report.

The Mission House of the SDA Church has been burnt down by the angry Muslim youth over the development.

The Muslims, according to the police, are angry over the fact that the church has built a wall on the disputed land.

The Brong Ahafo regional police commander ASP Christopher Tawiah who confirmed the incident to Starrfmonline.com Friday said the two groups have been fighting over that particular parcel of land for quite some time now.

He said even though the land is located within the Muslim community where the church is also sited, a court has ruled that the land legitimately belongs to the church.

He noted that the regional police command has dispatched personnel to the area to restore calm.

“The church is in the area of the Zongo community but the land doesn’t belong to the Zongo community, it belongs to the SDA church.

“It was sold to them by the Chief of Atebubu. The matter should have ended long ago because the court has ruled.

“But today, the Muslim youth just got up and went to burn the mission house of the SDA church down before the police realised they wanted to burn another down,” he narrated.
