Muslim youth asked to reject lawlessness

The Ashanti Regional Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Maulvi Masrool Ahmed Muzaffar, has called on Muslim youth to be law abiding and comport themselves during and after this year’s general elections.

They should dissociate themselves from any acts likely to create trouble for them and their families as well as bring the name of Islam into disrepute.

Maulvi Muzaffar was opening the 26th annual regional conference of the Majlis Khuddam-Ul Ahmadiyya, the youth wing of the Mission, at Asante-Bekwai.

The two-day meeting was held under the theme, “Ensuring peaceful election-2012, the challenge of the youth.”

It brought together over 500 members to deliberate on ways of contributing to make this year’s polls violence-free.

The Regional Missionary said it was painful that the activities of some Muslims were negatively affecting the image of Islam, a religion that stood for peace.

Mr. Alhassan Yakubu, Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), said he was happy that the conference had made the issue of peace in the upcoming December polls the main focus of the discussions.

He said since Ghanaians had accepted to travel the path of constitutional democracy, it was important for all to play by the rules of the game which he said included tolerance and respect for the political parties’ code of conduct.

He said on no account should elections be allowed to create needless tension, confusion and anarchy.

Mr. Bashir Akwasi Ahmed, Business Process Framework Project Manager, AngloGold Ashanti, told the youth to refuse to be manipulated by any politician in pursuit of some parochial political agenda.

Mr. Bipuah Hanif, Regional President of the Youth, asked them to go by the teachings of the Holy Prophet Mohammed and pray unceasingly for the nation’s peace and security.**
