Muslim organisation gives to Kumasi prisons

Kumasi, Oct 16, GNA – The Islamic Propagation and Research Centre in Kumasi on Saturday donated food items, used clothes, soap and praying mats worth 10 million cedis to the inmates of the Kumasi Central prisons.

The donation was part of the annual Ramadan charity programme of the Centre to assist the inmates during the month of Ramadan. Sheik Nuhu Abubakr, the Director of the Centre, said the donation was in response to a command in the Holy Quran that enjoined Muslims to assist the needy during the Ramadan season.

He appealed to Muslims to always assist the vulnerable and the needy in society in order to receive the blessings of Allah. Mr Ambrose Imoro Salifu, the Ashanti Regional Commander of the Ghana Prisons Service, thanked the organisation and the Muslim community in the Ashanti Region for their support to the inmates of the prisons. He said the government alone could not cater for the needs of the inmates, hence the need for individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the inmates.
